Chapter 26: Bloodborne: Introduction

Welcome to American Health Care Academy’s Bloodborne Pathogens Course. This course is designed to meet OSHA guidelines as outlined in the “Bloodborne Pathogens Standard” (29 CFR 1910.1030).

It is intended for individuals who need OSHA compliant training, including: health care providers, tattoo artists, teachers, day care workers, housekeeping personnel and general workplace employees.

This course will provide you with information needed to help protect yourself and others should you be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) at the workplace.

Our training will teach you:

  • What bloodborne pathogens (BBPs) are,
  • How BBPs are transmitted,
  • How to protect yourself from exposure,
  • How to act if you are exposed,
  • How to clean an infected area, and
  • How to report an incident by following your *company’s exposure control plan.

*Exposure control plan: a written plan to eliminate or minimize occupational exposures as defined by OSHA standard. Ask your employer where you can find this information with site-specific requirements for your workplace.
