Board of Nursing CPR Certification Requirements

Summary of Board Requirement:

The Board of Nursing of Delaware requires CPR certification with practical skills component that adheres to the Healthcare Provider level training standards. It requires ACLS or PALS certifications based on patient requirements.  

Board Statement:

The Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required for all registered nurses. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required for RNs working in the ICU or with adults. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required for RNs working with pediatric patients.

Pursuant to 24 Del.C. §1775(c)- a maximum number of eight (8) contact hours of continuing education may be obtained by taking courses in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). The clarification also specifically states that courses in BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP may not be counted toward the twelve (12) contact hours required to be in a field related to the science and practice of respiratory care.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) CPR Certification Requirements

Licensure requirements for nurses/ nursing assistants are set by the state board of nursing. American Healthcare Academy offers its courses through Post Graduate Institute of Medicine which is jointly accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
